《The Platform Sutra of the Sixth Patriarch is the only work in the history of Chinese Buddhism that is not spoken by the Buddha but is called the "Sutra".Most of the quotations from Zen Buddhism since the Tang and Song dynasties can be found here. Mr. Cai Zhizhong once used his exquisite brushstrokes to "draw the scriptures" to convey his wisdom, integrity and profound understanding of the ancient sages.

Tao is not a language, so how can we speak Zen?

Zen does not rely on knowledge, scriptures or words, but points directly to the human heart and realizes nature and becomes a Buddha.

At the Lingshan Conference in the past, the Buddha picked up a flower without saying a word. Only the eldest disciple Kashyapa understood the "silent and eloquent teachings of the enlightened one". Therefore, the Buddha passed on the Dharma of Buddhism to Kashyapa. I use the pure Dharma eyes and the wonderful mind of Nirvana. The true reality has no form and the subtle Dharma. I will give you the support. The World Honored One's verse says: "The Dharma is inherent in Dharma, and it is also a Dharma that cannot be Dharma. Now that I can’t pay, there is no law. "

Later, the 28th generation of Indian Zen patriarch "Bodhidharma", sailed from India to China to teach Zen, and Zen was able to be carried forward in China.

The Sixth Patriarch pointed directly at his original heart and nature.

It is pointed out that Zen is "knowing one's own nature", so there are five things:

What kind of self-nature is originally pure;

What kind of self-nature does not originate and die;

What kind of nature is inherently sufficient;

What a self-nature, it is unshakable;

What kind of self-nature can produce all dharmas.

After carefully reading the scriptures, the editor selected ten verses of wisdom from them. In-depth and easy-to-understand words can be enough to become everyone's motto in the process of practice.
1. It is not the wind or the banner, the heart of the benevolent is moved.
Huineng came to Faxing Temple in Guangzhou and happened to meet Master Yin Zong who was preaching the "Nirvana Sutra" to everyone. At this time, the wind blew the flag. One monk said it was the wind moving, and the other monk said it was the flag moving, and the two argued endlessly. Huineng walked up to the two monks and said, "It's not the wind or the banner, but your heart is moving." Everyone was surprised after hearing this.
2. Bodhi has no trees, and a mirror is not a platform. There is nothing in it, so where can dust be caused?
Bodhi: refers to the Bodhi tree, which translates to wisdom, knowledge, and awareness, and refers to the wisdom that can realize the nature of the Dharma. Provoke: contaminated. Bodhi is enlightenment, how can there be a tree? How can there be a mirror in my heart? There was nothing at all, so how could it be stained with dust?
3. The lower-minded people have the highest wisdom, and whether the higher-minded people have the intentional wisdom.If a person is a gentleman, he will have infinite sins.
People with low status often have extraordinary real wisdom, and people with prominent status will also have times when their wisdom is buried. If you look down on others, it will lead to endless serious sins and karma.
4. You must open up the Buddha's knowledge and views every thought, and do not open up the knowledge and views of sentient beings.Opening Buddha's knowledge and views is the birth of the world;To open up the knowledge and views of sentient beings is the world.
Your mind should be mindful and focus on opening up the wisdom of Buddhism, not opening up the knowledge of secular people. Opening the wisdom of Buddhism is to be born, and opening the knowledge of the world is to enter the world.
5. Born to sit but not lying, and die not lying;What is a bad bone to make a homework?
When I am alive, I often sit and don’t lie down. After I die, I just lie there and can’t sit anymore. This body is a smelly skin. How can you work hard on this external body?
6. Why do you need to keep the precepts if you are calm?Why do you need to practice Zen when practicing straightforwardness?Be kind to your parents, be filial to you, and be righteous to you, be sympathetic to each other; If you let go, you will be harmonious with your superiors and inferiors; if you are patient, you will be free from evil. If you can drill wood and produce fire, red lotus will surely grow in the mud. The bitter taste is good medicine, and the unpleasant ear must be loyal words ; Correcting one's mistakes will bring wisdom, and protecting one's shortcomings will not be virtuous.
If the mind and nature are equal and without distinction, why should you be attached to the precepts? If your thoughts and actions are pure and untainted, why do you have to practice meditation? If you know gratitude, you should know how to be filial to your parents. If you understand the truth deeply, you should know how to be kind to the top and the bottom. Humility allows the superiors and the inferior to each other to live in harmony, while tolerance causes the thoughts to calm down. If you can work hard like drilling wood to get fire, even if you are in a dirty place, you can grow spotlessly like a red lotus. Good medicine is bitter, but unpleasant words must be honest. By correcting past mistakes, you can gain wisdom, and if you focus on protecting your shortcomings, it will be difficult to be consistent with the laws of sages.
7. If you do not know the original mind, it is useless to study the Dharma.If you know your original heart and see your own nature, you will be called a husband, a teacher of heaven and man, and a Buddha.
Original mind: self-nature, original Buddha nature. If a person does not understand his original heart, no matter how many Dharmas he learns, it will be of no benefit. If you can understand your true heart, you will be a real man, a teacher of heaven and man, and a Buddha at this time.
8. Good teacher, broad mind, and all over the Dharma Realm;Just use it and make it clear, and you will know everything by applying it.Everything is one, and one is everything.
If a person's mind and nature are very tolerant, then he can encompass all things in the world. If you look at things with this mentality, everything in the world will be clearly revealed and you can understand the self-image of all things. The self-image of all things has the same nature, that is, the display of human nature, and this is the self-image of all things.
9. The supreme Bodhi must be understood in the following words and see one’s own nature.It is neither born nor destroyed, and in all times, every thought can be seen.All things are free of stagnation, one truth is true, all realities are free and smooth. The heart that is just like this is true.
To experience the supreme wisdom in Buddhism, one must be able to understand and recognize one's original heart and experience the Buddha nature contained in one's own body. The Buddha nature is neither born nor destroyed, and is always reflected in the concept, reflecting that everything is free from obstacles. The true Buddha nature is everything, and all the scenes in the world are the manifestation of Buddha nature. Those who can experience this true nature can distinguish falsehood and delusion, and can recognize the truth of Buddha nature.
10. Ordinary people are foolish and confused. They only know how to repent of their past mistakes, but do not regret their future mistakes.Because of not regret, the previous mistakes will not be eliminated, and the next mistakes will be born again.Since the previous mistakes are not eliminated, the later mistakes are reborn again. What is the name of repentance?
People in the world are ignorant and obsessed with their own ignorances and only know how to repent of past mistakes, but do not know how to use their hearts to block future mistakes. If you don’t know how to repent of your mistakes, the previous mistakes will not be eliminated and will continue to exist, and some mistakes will be generated again. The previous sin was not eliminated and later committed. How can this be called repentance?
