This week, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the government would make a $100 million investment into Merit Functional Foods, which creates ingredients for plant-based foods. The investment will go toward creating jobs at the company’s Winnipeg facility and support Canadian farmers growing crops such as yellow peas—which is the key protein ingredient used in plant-based meat products by brands such as Beyond Meat.
