As the Tantric practitioners deepen their practice, problems in their practice also arise. Everyone should always reflect on what aspects of themselves have problems. If you can't solve the problem yourself, you should ask the master as soon as possible. Especially in the early stages of studying Buddhism, you should follow the master and get closer to the master. The following are some common questions that everyone has during their practice.
1. Treat Buddhism as worldly law
Since converting, many Buddhists have been staying in their desire for worldly beauty. Although they recite many mantras and meditate every day, they have never been able to learn. Year by year, his good deeds have not grown, his views have not changed, and he has always been a worldly vision, and greed, anger, and ignorance are still strong.
Practicing the Dharma is like chanting a text for elementary school students. Taking refuge in the Three Jewels is just a formal refuge, and the heart is full of various expectations of increasing the benefits of worldly blessings. Such people are just nominal disciples of conversion. Some people are swearing and pious when they first learn Buddhism. Once they encounter internal and external obstacles, their body, speech and mind will be completely shaken, and they even throw the Dharma aside and turn from the inner path to the outer path.
The inner path is Buddhism (the inner path among the five wisdoms refers to Buddhism), and the doctrines outside Buddhism are collectively called heretics. Some of the knowledge and views of the heretics are also encouraged to be good, and they are also benefiting sentient beings in different realms, but no heretic can ultimately benefit sentient beings like Buddhism.
If you only stay in the stage of doing good deeds and accumulating virtues, it will only be a temporary benefit to sentient beings, and Buddhism can enable sentient beings to realize their own nature and transcend the cycle of reincarnation. If you do not understand this, you will think that Buddhism is just a kind of moral education and good and evil education.
“Buddhism is inseparable from the world”, which does not mean that Buddhism is limited to the world, but rather that it is to cure the world and enable practitioners to realize the reality of "out of the mud without being stained". Worldly education also advocates virtues such as abiding by laws and law, and helping others, which are similar to the six paramitas of giving, keeping precepts, forbearance, and diligence.
If Shakyamuni Buddha did not become a monk and practiced, he could also use the Ten Good Deeds to teach sentient beings. He was a prince and a future king. He could do benevolent policies in both material and spiritual aspects, but he could not allow sentient beings to escape from reincarnation.
Although good and evil are different in their intentions and behaviors, they are all in the choices and discrimination. Good has good karma, evil has evil karma, as long as there is discrimination and attachment, you cannot escape the three realms. Therefore, the Buddha taught sentient beings with infinite wisdom and compassion how to eliminate discrimination and attachment, how to ultimately transcend good and evil, and transcend reincarnation.
2. Self-forced practice of asceticism
Some practitioners lack skillful countermeasures and use the method of confronting the body and mind to force themselves to practice asceticism, regardless of their physical condition and the surrounding social environment, and practice hard, causing external environment to be disordered with their own physical and mental. For example, if people with poor physical fitness insist on not eating after noon and fasting for a long time, their bodies will not be able to bear it over time and the qi in their bodies cannot function normally.
The normal operation of qi in the meridians is the basis for body and mind regulation. The qi bondage in one place often leads to abnormal heartbeat, causing emotions such as irritability and upset. If you do not know how to resolve the contradiction between yourself and the external environment and think that there is great opposition and hatred with the world, you will have a result of illness and karma. Such a vicious cycle will make the situation worse and worse.
A practitioner should learn to adjust his body, speech and mind, and the way of practicing the Tao should not be deviated from reality. First of all, you must clarify your position, and then choose a way to practice that suits your own level, and do not overestimate yourself. For example, if the Venerable Milarepa practices asceticism, can everyone practice asceticism like the Venerable? We advocate diligent practice. We must eat the necessary bitterness, but do not eat the unnecessary bitterness.
There are secrets for practicing. In the early stage, the main behavior is to increase the behavior. When the preliminary practice reaches a certain point, the main practice is to reduce the preliminary practices. Instead, the main practice is to meditate.; Then, you should make up for whatever you lack according to your personal situation. If you lack concentration, you should practice more meditation. If you do not have enough confidence, you should cultivate Buddha arrogance.
Practice is like sailing, watching the direction of the wind and the current of the water. The master is the helmsman, who steers you in the sea of life and death. You must gradually become the helmsman and learn to flexibly adjust your practice according to different situations.
3. Lack of observation of body, speech and mind
Some people practice Dharma only recite daily homework, and their daily practice is limited to the period when they hold the Dharma book. In addition, they are all in the delusion of greed, anger, ignorance and delusion. Even if I practice the Dharma for an hour, I am still hesitating and delusional.
When I started doing my homework, I read it very deeply, and felt very comfortable in my body and mind. I gradually raised my head and began to look around. When I remembered something that was not going well with me, I felt hatred. So my heart tensed, my body tensed, and I couldn't continue to recite the homework.
Someone asked: "I have been studying for so long, why hasn't it worked yet? ”The reason is that you have never observed your body, speech and mind. This is actually not called true practice. At best, it can only be considered learning Buddhism. True practice should use the practice to cure one's habits of body, speech and mind, and integrate practice into daily life.
To study Buddhism, you must first "do not do any evil and do all good." ”Most people don’t know what are the ten good deeds and ten bad deeds, and even think that the ten bad deeds are normal. Therefore, the first thing to do is to distinguish between good and evil, and then stop doing good. This is a relative method of practice.
People who lack the ability to distinguish in the early stage should listen to the teachings and teachings of good teachers, and should understand them carefully after listening. Do not enter the left ear and exit the right ear, and forget everything when you go back. Three ways of listening to the Dharma should be taken as a commandment: 1. Like an upside down bowl ; 2. A bowl that leaks the bottom ; 3. Like a bowl filled with venom. Whether you are a magic weapon can be judged by the performance of listening to the Dharma.
Secondly, when we practice the Dharma, we must know how to apply what we have learned. The Dharma book is like a mirror, used to compare the karma and habits of one's body, speech and mind. As long as a slight evil thought arises, it will be cleared immediately. This is the practice of Dharma. If the Dharma book does not become a convenient way to practice and does not have the function of observation, this is not called practice of Dharma.
Some people also regard Buddhism as a convenience to encourage their habits of greed, anger and ignorance. For example, after practicing Vajrasattva Dharma, they use Vajrasattva as a convenience to cover up their sins. It doesn’t matter if you kill mosquitoes. While killing, chanting "Om Banza Sattva Hum", it seems to be very compassionate. He commits evil karma regardless of cause and effect, and Vajrasattva is the one who decides for me.
Some people use Buddhism to deal with others and practice wrathful deity for threats and revenge. Such practice is very sad. The merits of mantras are very special, but you cannot practice the method with impure intention, otherwise it will not only be ineffective, but will also ruin yourself. As the scripture says, “The effectiveness of mantras is like the vajra, which can penetrate all obstacles, but if the reciter becomes evil in his mind, it will penetrate his own heart! ”
4. Delay in dealing with the amendment
Most of our disciples insist on practicing at least one Dharma a day. In the past, everyone was required to practice at least one hour a day, but now some people shorten it to half an hour or even a quarter of an hour by themselves. Calculate carefully. Since the beginning of time, the karma of body, speech and mind, plus the karma of now twenty-three hours a day, should be eliminated by practicing less than one hour a day. Wouldn’t you do it seriously?
However, some people are particularly anxious when practicing the Dharma. Before the dedication is finished, they have already put down their legs. When they hear the phone ringing, they will run over immediately. Some people like to sleep in and only get out of the bed when they are working hours, and they don’t have time to eat breakfast, so they have no time to practice the Dharma. I just dragged it from morning to afternoon, and waited until I was about to finish the Dharma before going to bed at night. I fell asleep without reading a few words.
Some people still barely persevere after meditating for a long time and are tired, but end up falling asleep while sitting. It is better to lie down and rest, otherwise they will develop bad habits and will fall asleep as soon as they meditate. Some people like to practice lying down, but whenever they can't sleep, they just pick up the Dharma book and fall asleep as soon as they see it. The Dharma book becomes a lullaby.
Once you develop bad habits in your practice, it is difficult to change. When living in the world, you must put practice first, so that you will not have bad causes of cessation of the Dharma and lay the foundation for liberation at the end of your life. If you cannot achieve success in this life, you can also be liberated in the bardo.
Whether it is ten minutes or an hour, you must be respectful and not have delusions. When you realize that the false thoughts come, quickly transfer your mind to the ritual of meditation and continue to visualize the deity. This will gradually develop habits once or twice, and it will be easy to adjust delusions. This kind of adjustment ability is the most needed to practice the secrets of Great Perfection.
5. Practice as you wish
Some people practice based on their own emotions and when they are lucky, they are full of piety towards the Three Jewels, "How wonderful! ”When encountering something unsatisfactory, my mentality changed and I didn’t even light up the fragrance. When you are in a good mood, you always want to get close to the master, but if you are a little worse than his intention, you will run far away and say some unclean words. When practicing the Dharma, I became enthusiastic. I sat for three or four hours, but sometimes I couldn’t even sit for half an hour.
Learning Buddhism is like a long flow of water and a long flow of water, and it cannot be achieved overnight. If you cannot defeat your emotions, and are often influenced by emotions, are you still considered a practitioner? When you are troubled, depressed, and hatred, you should practice the Dharma. You should pray to the guru and the Three Jewels to correct your wrong mentality. Many people are not like this. If they have troubles, they will get entangled in troubles. If they are unhappy, they will stop practicing the Dharma. So what is the use of the guru and the Three Jewels to you?
Some people do not follow the rituals and guidance of the Dharma when meditation, and create at will based on their own imagination. This is not called practicing Dharma, but creating karma. A disciple told me that if the master is placed on the top of his head when he is lying down and meditating, wouldn’t the master also lay down? This way, he is disrespectful to the master, so he takes his own initiative to observe the master in the flank, so that the master will sit. Although he was respectful, he did not practice according to the rituals of the Dharma and was not in accordance with the Dharma.
Some people always think that the master will bless me with achievements when meditation. My whole body emits rainbow light to save sentient beings everywhere. All sentient beings offer me, and I will give them to the poor... This is the Great Perfection Realm that I have described! When practicing Dharma, we cannot let our own delusions create and describe it, because we have long been accustomed to this kind of thinking of inverted dreams since time immemorial, and practicing is to correct this habit.
Therefore, we must strictly follow the rituals formulated by the master of the lineage to practice, and we must not blindly follow the idea of "I". No matter whether you have a clear understanding of the Dharma during practice, as long as you have firm beliefs and follow the rituals truthfully, you will surely achieve success.
