Everything appears by the mind. In the "Lingyun Sutra", all dharmas are not caused by causes and conditions, but are manifested by the true mind.If you are confused about the true heart, the physical and mental world will appear. Except for the true heart, all physical and mental worlds are delusions. Therefore, the three realms are only one mind, and there is no outside the mind. The three realms of sentient beings, and even the ruthless material world, that is, our body and mind of the main retribution and the environment of the dependent retribution, are all manifested by the true mind. There is no real method to obtain except the true heart. And this true mind is originally pure, originally complete, absolutely unchanging, and always like this, so it is also called Tathagatagarbha.
This originally pure mind is the pure mind of one's own nature, called the Tathagatagarbha. What does Tathagatagarbha mean?In the "Dharma Body Chapter of the Sutra of the Sutra", it says: The Tathagata's Dharma body is inseparable from the afflictions, and is called the Tathagata's Garbha. There are various metaphors in the Tathagata Sutra, which says: True gold falls into impure places, and bad things wrap around golden statues. It means that real gold (full red gold) falls into a cesspool or various impurities;Or a very dirty item is wrapped in a golden statue, which is a metaphor for the true mind that is unchanging and originally pure, but is covered by troubles, so it is called Tathagatagarbha.
All Buddhas have attained the Tathagatagarbha and revealed the Dharma body and even all merits. This is called the Tathagatagarbha.Entanglement means troubles. Entanglement, sentient beings are entangled by troubles, and the Buddha nature and Dharma body cannot appear, so it is called entanglement in the Tathagatagarbha.
Everything is manifested by the mind, that is, the three realms, six paths, and even all the physical and mental worlds and universes are manifested by the true mind, like a dream or an illusion, and should not be attached to it.Therefore, the true mind is an absolute, incredible and pure essence, which is manifested by the mind.
Another change of consciousness-only, this consciousness refers to the Alaya consciousness. The Alaya consciousness is the collection of seeds, and its body is also empty. It is a form of the collection of all kinds of good and evil seeds since time immemorial. These seeds are born and die, so the Alaya consciousness is also born and dies.
For example, when we see someone and hear a sound, we will put it into the eight consciousness fields and become seeds.Since time immemorial, all good and evil karma of all kinds of body, speech and mind, as well as all things that are seen, heard, felt and knew will be put into the eight consciousness fields and become seeds. Therefore, the Alaya consciousness (the eighth consciousness) is a very dense collection of seeds, and it is an infinite seed.
In fact, what we usually call the six consciousnesses of eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body and mind: eye consciousness, ear consciousness, nose consciousness, tongue consciousness, body consciousness, consciousness (sixth consciousness). The first five consciousnesses and the sixth consciousness are all the seeds of Alaya consciousness, and the self-attachment of the seventh consciousness is also the seeds of Alaya consciousness. Therefore, the first five consciousnesses, the sixth consciousness, and the seventh consciousness are all generated by the seeds of the Alaya consciousness.
In the Dharma-Only Consciousness School, the body and mind worlds are manifested by the eighth consciousness. This eighth consciousness has three meanings: one is hidden, one is storage, and the other is attachment.
Hidden means that the Alaya consciousness is in our body and is not elsewhere. The reason why we have life in this life is that the Alaya consciousness is attached to by the seventh consciousness, and then according to which seed has great power to use at the end of death, we will be reborn in the realm, and even where our parents or environment are destined to be.It is integrated with our physical body, which is the body and mind. Therefore, the mind and body here are the eighth consciousness (Alaya consciousness), and even the seventh consciousness, the sixth consciousness, and the first five consciousnesses that are used by the Alaya consciousness.
Storage means the stored Alaya consciousness. It stores all seeds from time immemorial, and it is a collection of all seeds, so it is called seed consciousness.Everything that our body, speech and mind creates will be stored, so it means storage. The seeds it stores will also be used to affect our body, speech, mind, body, language, and psychological behavior.
Another one is an Alaya consciousness that is attached to as an object.Which one is attached to this Alaya consciousness? It is to be attached to the seventh consciousness (manas consciousness), and manas consciousness is the mind of ego.The manas consciousness is actually also a seed arising from the eighth consciousness, but it in turn clings to the eighth consciousness for me.In fact, the eighth consciousness (Alaya consciousness) is born and destroyed in an instant. Therefore, the Dharma-Only Consciousness School believes that the Alaya consciousness is a collection of seeds, which is born, died and changed, and there is no subject to obtain it.
Although the Alaya consciousness is called the mind and is also the subject of rebirth, this subject is empty. Then all the worlds manifested by the Alaya consciousness are also empty, but they are attached to it as reality by sentient beings. In the Yogacara school, it is said that Yogacara is not realm. All realms are empty, and they have the appearance of dependent origination. When you cling to it as real, it is false, and its dependent origination is also empty, so the eighth consciousness itself is also empty.
As we talked about the true mind, it is the true mind that is manifested by the mind. It is an absolutely unchanging true nature. Although it is emptiness and formless, it is not an unattainable state. The true mind is unchanging, real, unborn and indestructible, and originally pure, so the true mind is different from the Alaya consciousness.
The Alaya consciousness is a collection of seeds of birth and death. It is dependent on the origin and has no subjectivity. The true heart appears because after the true heart is confused, there is the appearance of the body and mind world. This is clearly stated in the "Lingyun Sutra". The Alaya consciousness is transformed by the consciousness-only, and it is manifested by the seeds of the Alaya consciousness, so it is not true.
The Yogacara school advocates that the Yogacara school should realize is also emptiness. It is to realize the perfect and true nature, and it is also to realize the original perfect and true emptiness.Of course, one of the schools of the Consciousness-Only School of the Complete Reality agrees with this true mind, but another school of the Consciousness-Only School recognizes emptiness. There are few differences here, but overall it is believed that it is manifested by the Consciousness-Only School.
Sometimes in the sutra, the appearance of the mind is only mentioned. In the school of true nature and mind, it is about the everlasting and wonderful and bright true mind. This ideal mind is understood as an unchanging and true essence. In terms of consciousness-only, it may understand that the mind of idealism is the eighth consciousness of consciousness-only.
In the Yogacara school, this mind is divided into the mind king and the mind factor. There are eight kings of the mind, namely the Alaya consciousness of the eighth consciousness and the Manas consciousness of the seventh consciousness, as well as the consciousness of the sixth consciousness, and the first five consciousnesses. The various psychological activities derived from the King of Min include pervasive, different environment, good psychological activities, evil psychological activities, and even unrestrained mental factors.
In fact, the King of Mind and Mind are manifested by the use of the eighth consciousness. Therefore, when the Yogacara school talks about idealism, this mind is different from the true mind understood by the true mind. The true nature of the mind also talks about the division of the mind into truth and delusion. In particular, the "Awakening of Faith in the Mahayana" talks about the opening of two doors of one mind, the true heart and the delusion mind. The true heart is the unchanging true nature, and the false mind is born and destroyed, which is different from the consciousness-only.The main thing is to have a different understanding of this ultimate mind.
Therefore, the consciousness mentioned by Yogacara is mostly false. If consciousness refers to the mind, this mind is also a false mind, and even the eighth consciousness is false. The true nature of mind refers to the unchanging true nature. This is different.
In terms of the true nature and only mind, the pure mind of self-nature can show all dharmas according to circumstances. If you can manifest all dharmas with defilements and purity according to circumstances, you will have various different states. But no matter whether these realms are defilement or purity, they are false. The body is the true heart, just like the relationship between the sea and the waves.
Therefore, from the perspective of ultimate perfection, the true nature is only connected with the mind, which directly points to the true nature and wonderful mind.Because when you are confused, you will have these false realms, and when you realize it, you will be the true mind, so it can directly become a Buddha.
The consciousness-only, it does not directly point to the true nature, and even when it finally realizes the perfection and reality, it tends to emptiness, but it still does not point out the true mind (there is also a point that points to the true mind and the true mind corresponds). It gradually transforms consciousness into wisdom, so it talks about the three great kalpas to become Buddhas, which is gradually coming. It analyzes the mind and mind-facing laws, as well as the mind’s uncorrelated laws, physical laws, and inaction laws. In general, it analyzes the conditioned laws and inaction laws, and then transforms consciousness into wisdom. It is a very broad analysis, very cumbersome, but the analysis is very thorough and clear. There are advantages in classification.
However, the Yogacara school lacks the concept of perfect and rapid succession of becoming a Buddha, so the Yogacara school belongs to gradual cultivation, which is convenient in the Mahayana, and it still lacks the rapid and perfect nature of directly pointing to the true mind to realize the Buddha and become a Buddha immediately.
