“The definition of I" contains two meanings: one, the meaning of independent existence, and two, the meaning of being able to dominate by oneself and being free and free.If it is proved that all sentient beings do not have these two properties in all dharmas, then;"I see" means no basis, which means "no self" can be established.
Our body is composed of flesh, muscles, bones, hair, etc.According to modern scientific research, these tissues are combined by various chemical elements such as carbon, oxygen, and nitrogen.Biology can be said to be made up of animal cells. The human body always needs nutrient absorption of air, food, etc.On the other hand, waste is needed. In other words, the human body is closely related to the surrounding environment, and all this is enough to prove that our body cannot exist alone and has no ability to dominate freely.Neither can survive alone or dominate, "I" is just a fantasy of no reason. On the contrary, the nature of "no self" is the reality.
The mind does not understand the consciousness, emotion, intention, instincts, habits, etc., which may be the reason why it is generally regarded as "self".
Western philosopher said: "I think so I am here.” means to recognize “knowledge” as “I”.I don’t know that our knowledge and thoughts change due to changes in the external environment. How can we prove that there is an independent "self" to know without a known object? Therefore, "knowledge" and the known object are interdependent and cannot exist independently. When the external environment appears, we cannot turn a blind eye or listen to it. This can prove that we have no mastery and freedom in "knowledge".Therefore, "know" does not have "me" nature, and we are alwaysLifeIn the middle, the ups and downs of emotions are like waves, all of which are driven by external environments, not arise alone, and it is even more difficult to make decisions. Therefore, "emotion" has no "self" nature. On the surface, our will seems to be able to be advocated by ourselves, but in fact, they are all influenced by internal desires and external environments. Driven by the desire for survival and the desires of men and women, they are not able to be free, so "will" has no "self" nature.
The three functions of knowledge, emotion and intention are actually mutually connected, influenced and inseparable. It also proves that each has no separate existence, that is, "no self".
On the one hand, the subconscious can maintain the experience we gain in terms of knowledge and behavior, that is, the present perception, and on the other hand, it forms potential forces to influence our future activities of knowledge, emotions and intentions, that is, comparisons. The sum of these activities forms our character. Therefore, the subconscious and the clear consciousness have mutual causal effects and do not exist separately. The subconscious mind contains innate primitive impulses and instincts, which cannot be controlled freely by the "I", so the subconscious mind also has no "I" nature.
Looking at the two aspects of body and mind, there is no self-indulgent nature to be obtained. "I" is just an illusion and obsession in emotions, so it is reasonable and unreasonable.According to Buddhism, "I" is just a false combination of our material and spiritual functions. When we gather together, we call it "I", and I am just a synonym. If all trees gather together, they are called "forest". The forest is just a pseudonym for many trees. There is no forest except the trees.(Information source: excerpted from "South Fujian"BuddhismJournal of the College)
