黄檗禅师答道:今天老师举出这个公案,使我们见到马祖禅师的大机大用,但是还不能了解马祖大师,假如继承他的方法,以后将会接引不到学人了。

百丈禅师说道:如是!如是!见解与老师一样,见解超过老师,才可以承当禅教大法的传授,你有些地方超过了我。

黄檗禅师听后,便恭恭敬敬地礼拜着。

后来沩山禅师问仰山禅师道:百丈再参马祖因缘,此二尊宿意旨如何?

沩山禅师道:马祖座下出八十四位善知识,几人得大机?几人得大用?

仰山禅师道:百丈得大机,黄檗得大用,余者皆是倡导之师。

禅门的大机大用,主要就是直指本心,见性成佛。吾人在生活里,要能自由、自主,要能圆满、喜悦。精神和物质要合一,内心和外境要一如,随佛道而不成佛,随众生而不入众生,只讲开悟,只讲机用,此即所谓禅!
