As for the cause of Bodhi, sentient beings are completely equivalent to Buddha. If you respect the Buddha but not the sentient beings, it is really unreasonable.The Seven Essentials of Cultivating the Mind says: “To cultivate great kindness to the people."Sentient beings are the source of our practice and the foundation of all achievements. They should be regarded as their great benefactors.Among the ten great vows of the Kings of Samantabhadra's Practice and Vows, the vow of following sentient beings also says: All sentient beings should be treated as parents, teachers, Arhats, and even Buddhas. (“It is like respecting parents, worshiping teachers, Arhats, and even Buddhas, etc., there is nothing different.” )。
But is this the case in real life?Observe it and you will understand.Whenever we see Buddha statues, pagodas and the Three Jewels of Guru, we respectfully bow and offer respectfully, and when we see enemies who often harm ourselves, we feel very uncomfortable and slander them. This is unreasonable.You should know that Buddha is as important as sentient beings. When you see animals like stray dogs, you should try every means to help them and regard them as a helping factor in becoming a Buddha;If you are harmed by inhumans such as ghosts, gods, monsters, etc., you should also visualize them as your greatest benefactors.

If you regard sentient beings as like Buddha, you will not see any of their faults. It is because you always feel that others are worse than you and worse than yourself, and treat them as particularly inferior sentient beings, you will think that you are superior to him in all aspects.But such a heart cannot obtain true nirvana at all.No matter what method you practice, you must think about benefiting sentient beings. Some great masters say in their teachings: "With the heart to benefit sentient beings, all the obstacles and demons will naturally be destroyed."By the same, if you are full of selfishness, it can attract many disadvantages and disasters.
During the process of practice, we should try our best to eliminate selfishness and help sentient beings. When helping sentient beings, we should also regard sentient beings as a favorable condition for Bodhi.We practice to become a Buddha and obtain the fruit of Sakyamuni Buddha. We should respect the Buddha as much as we are. If we lack sentient beings, we will not be able to obtain the Buddha's fruit.If you can do this and correct past wrong ideas from your perspective, your practice will definitely make progress.
But now some lay Buddhists are not like this.When you hear the so-called living Buddha, you are so excited that you dance. You don’t take those who have no status or money seriously at all, and often insult them with contempt. This is unreasonable!
