There is a story of thirsty water in the "Hundred Metaphors": In the past, there were people who were foolish and unwise, extremely thirsty and needed water, and when they saw the flames, they thought it was water, even if they drove away, to the Xintou River. When they reached the riverbank, they looked at each other and did not drink. Others said: "You are thirsty and chase water, and now you are at the water place, why don't you drink it?" The fool replied, "If you can drink it all, I will drink it." There is a lot of water in this area, but it cannot be exhausted, so it is not drunk. At that time, everyone laughed when they heard his words. For example, heretical paths take their own reasoning. Because he could not hold the Buddhist precepts, he did not accept them, resulting in no attainment of the Dao in the future, and he was wandering through life and death. If those fools see water and do not drink it, they are ridiculed by the times, and it is the same.
The gist is this: In the past, there was a man who was very thirsty while walking on the road and wanted to get some water to relieve this pain. But when he saw a river, and it flowed endlessly, and the water was very clean. This person just stared and didn't go down to drink water. The reason is that he thinks that he can't drink so much water, and if he finishes drinking, he will have drunk it long ago, and since he knows he can't finish it, he doesn't drink it. This story is a metaphor: Some people insist on bizarre opinions with strong words, which is unreasonable. In reality, there are indeed many people who think that the Buddhist precepts are very broad and strict, and that they cannot be fully accepted for a while, so they simply abandon and accept them, and still go through life and death, with no hope of attaining enlightenment. If you cannot accept all of your karma, but do not dare to take precepts because of this, you are wrong on top of your mistake.
