Stay away from all inverted dreams, what exactly do the eight words "Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra" mean?

Being a person
Stay away from all inverted dreams, what exactly do the eight words "Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra" mean?

《The Heart Sutra of Prajna Paramita, referred to as the Heart Sutra, is the most widely circulated version that is translated by Xuanzang, a master of Tripitaka in the Tang Dynasty. The full text is only 260 words, and it is the shortest chapter of the six hundred volumes of Prajna Sutra of Mahayana Buddhism.Although the Heart Sutra has the shortest number of words, it explains that form is not different from emptiness, emptiness is not different from form, form is emptiness, emptiness is form, and the great wisdom of dependent origination and emptiness can be said to be the simple text and broad meaning. After more than a thousand years of widespread dissemination in the Buddhist world, novelists, and music and art worlds, the Heart Sutra has become a conformity to Buddhist culture almost like Tathagata Buddha, Amitabha Buddha, and Guanyin Bodhisattva. It can be called the most widely circulated Buddhist scripture.

It is precisely because the Heart Sutra covers almost all the content of Mahayana Prajna, which cannot be explained in a few words. Today, the author only shares with readers the meaning of the title of the "Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra".First of all, let’s start with the definition of “Sutra” in this sutra. “Sutra” is translated from the Sanskrit word “Shutara” and is called “Che Sutra” in full."Qi" means to be in harmony, which is in line with the Buddhist teachings practiced and realized by all Buddhas, and the following is in line with the opportunity for the practice of sentient beings;"Sutra" means to show and penetrate, and it will thread the teachings of Buddhas that are in line with Buddhism and practice like a rope.Buddhist scriptures are divided into three parts: sutras, laws, and treatises, collectively known as the Three Canons."Sutra" is the Buddhist teachings that Buddhism teaches disciples to practice, "law" is the code of conduct formulated by the Buddha for his believers, and "theory" is the work of the Buddha's disciples to study and explain the Dharma.Since the Heart Sutra of Prajna Paramita is called the "Sutra", it means that it is the Dharma taught by the Buddha.

“Prajna” is a Sanskrit word, meaning wisdom, but this wisdom is different from the wisdom understood by people in the world. It is a great wisdom that can free life and death, so the title of the sutra uses Sanskrit word instead of the meaning of translation.Prajna is one of the six paramitas of Mahayana Buddhism. The so-called "six paramitas" are six ways to liberation from troubles and escape from birth and death. Specifically, they are giving, keeping precepts, forbearance, diligence, meditation, and Prajna. Giving to save greed, keeping precepts to prevent violations, forbearance to save anger, diligence to slackness, meditation to save scatteredness, and Prajna to save ignorance.

“Paramita is also a Sanskrit word, which can be translated as "degree" or "to the other shore".This divination is the "divination" of the six divine states, that is, through practice, one can save oneself, one can awaken others, and reach the ultimate nirvana Pure Land from the world of life and death. Therefore, the "Six Paramitas" can also be called the "Six Paramitas". Prajna Paramitas is to ride on the ship of wisdom, pass through the sea of the three poisons of "greed, anger, and ignorance", and reach the other shore of Nirvana and happiness. In particular, the word "duo" is mentioned. Some people translate "duo" as "da" of reaching, and abbreviated as "Do" of the Heart Sutra. For example, the classic novel "Journey to the West" calls the Heart Sutra the "Doxin Sutra";In fact, "Do" is just an antonym at the end in Sanskrit and has no practical meaning.

Finally, let’s talk about “heart”. The heart in the Heart Sutra has two meanings: one is the core, because the Heart Sutra condenses the central idea of the Mahayana Prajna Sutra, and the Mahayana Prajna thought is the source of the practice of all Buddhas, so it is called “heart”;The second is the original mind. All sentient beings are attached to form and form, and believe that all dharmas are real. The Heart Sutra explains the way of form and emptiness, interprets the Buddhist principles of ultimate emptiness, and teaches all sentient beings to abandon the false world, understand their original mind, practice inwardly, and understand their minds and nature, so it is called "mind".

Therefore, the eight words of the Heart Sutra of Prajna Paramita are translated into vernacular: practicing according to the Prajna wisdom method taught by Guanyin Bodhisattva, so as to be free from troubles and escape from birth and death, reach the other side of Nirvana and happiness, and to practice and realize the original mind that is neither born nor destroyed, neither defile, nor purity, nor increase or decrease. It is a sutra taught by the Buddha.According to Buddhist culture, if you listen to this sutra and then practice according to the practice method of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva's "Practice the Deep Prajna Paramita", you will be able to see that the five aggregates are empty and all dharmas are empty, and understand that form is empty and that form is form, so as to overcome all sufferings, stay away from inverted dreams, ultimately nirvana, and attain the supreme enlightenment of Buddhahood.
