The meditation methods provided by Buddhist traditions far exceed the mere effort of reducing stress or relaxing mood. In the end, meditation is a method of cultivating the mind. It allows us to know ourselves and fundamentally transform our personality and thinking.
Therefore, meditation is a tool that transforms our motivations and behaviors. In order to gain the ultimate perfect potential of meditation, in addition to adjusting the body to a certain posture and relaxing the mood, we must also combine some of the additional factors that traditional meditation provides.
“The holder of meditation is liberation”, and this sentence actually means that the holder of meditation is our motivation, and the experience and effects of our meditation depend entirely on the motivation we hold during meditation.
Short-sightedness and short-sightedness are a common pursuit today. Although we all want to be more relaxed and less stress-free, sometimes our main motivation for meditation is to seek spiritual massage or some kind of spiritual comfort.
The meditation goals we set determine the harvest of our meditation. For example, we may feel stressed by our surroundings or encounter difficulties at work or emotionally, and at this time we may want to use meditation to relieve such stress.
If you practice meditation with such motivation, although meditation can achieve our goals, it cannot bring us any effect that exceeds these goals.
Therefore, if the motivations we arise can transcend short-sighted and limited goals, then the gains of our meditation will be greater and more powerful.
Once we have set great and noble goals for our meditation, what can benefit and enhance our meditation is piety.
For some Western Buddhist disciples, piety is a challenging topic, so they are given relevant tips, hoping to help them break through obstacles.
When clarifying the relationship between faith and piety, piety appears more frequently in the essential or personal formula of practice, and faith is usually a term used in scriptures.
Generally speaking, there are three main types of faith: reverent faith, longing faith, and pure faith. Reverence is the worship and admiration of the object of faith.
A longing for a person with faith and a desire to imitate. Praise is closest to the second kind of faith, which refers to the faith that desires oneself to be liberated from suffering.
The faith of longing is the most important thing for us to make progress in our practice: “We not only seek protection of the refuge, but also seek to make ourselves a refuge. ”
Therefore, the most fulfilling faith is not just about seeking protection from others, but also about being fearless, able to provide protection and conversion to others.
However, piety is not only this kind of longing faith, it also has other key points, just as the Tibetan word piety is "女", the first word "女" is the longing faith, and the second word "女" means respect.
Relatively speaking, longing is a psychological state, while respect involves physical and verbal behavior. The difference between piety and faith is that it is a complete commitment and strong vow conveyed through the body, speech and mind.
In short, pious practice involves controlling our body, speech, and mind, and making our three gates fully bet on the goal of liberation.
Those who told him that it was difficult to develop piety actually ignored the more positive element of piety, who seemed to think that piety was to believe or think about something.
For example, if they are in the relationship between a master and a disciple, they believe that piety means reverence for the merits of the master's body, speech, and mind, and seem to ignore the merit characteristics that prioritize liberation.
In order to cultivate the level of piety and respect, it is recommended that everyone carefully examine themselves so that they can clearly understand the purpose of their piety. The most important thing is to be very clear about their purpose. Why do I need to cultivate this trust and confidence? What is its purpose? What is the goal I want to achieve?
If we only have foolish beliefs and try to convince ourselves to believe in something, but do not understand the purpose and reason, we may still be able to develop some kind of confidence, but such confidence is not enough.
Through regret for past actions, Milarepa was completely clear about his goals and priorities. It was precisely because of this absolute clarity that Milarepa was able to control all his life and towards the goal of liberation.
At the same time, he had firm and strong piety to the master who guided him to achieve this goal. If we can be very clear about our goals, I think we are clear about the goals we are striving for.
The degree of growth of our sincere piety,When piety grows, our meditation will also improve. For those who wish to cultivate and deepen their experience in meditation,PiousRespect is the most profound way to achieve this goal.
