Dedication must meet these two conditions

Tibetan Buddhism

Merit and good roots should be dedicated, otherwise there will be three kinds of faults: first, merit and good roots will not be complete; second, merit and good roots are unstable and insecure; Third, merit and good roots will not grow. There are two conditions for dedication: the first is to dedicate to all sentient beings, and the second is to hope that with the power of good roots, all beings will attain Buddhahood. The "Verse of Dedication" that we recite every day contains these two conditions.

"This blessing has gained all wisdom": Whether it is dedicated to oneself or to sentient beings, it is to become a Buddha. "This blessing" mainly refers to the merit, good roots or accumulated merit just done. For example, if we just recited the Quan Yin mantra 108 times or kowtowed 108 times, we will do the dedication at this time.

But it does not only refer to these merits and good roots, but also all the good roots, merits, and merits in past lives, present lives, and future lives, which can be dedicated. In the future, the good roots in the world can be returned in advance, and now I can "sign a contract" with the Law Realm Bank, and my "salary" will be advanced in advance, so it will be safer.

"All wisdom" refers to all wisdom, which means omniscient, and omniscient is Buddha. These good roots and merits are used as causes to obtain the fruit of enlightenment, that is, the Buddha's position. Why is it called "all wisdom"? Because the Buddha is completely enlightened and has completely mastered the nature and nature of all the dharmas of sakrania, he is omniscient. The Buddha also mastered all the methods that can make sentient beings completely liberated and become Buddhas, which is also called omniscient.

"Destroy all faults and enemies": "Faults" refers to these obstacles, such as: karma, afflictions, knowledge, habits, and can also be summarized as afflictions and knowledge. If it is a collection again, it can also be said to be a spiritual doubt. "Enemy" is the enemy, and the biggest enemy of a person's liberation and Buddhahood is afflictions and habits.

These afflictions and habits are the biggest enemies, and if you really want to be liberated and become a Buddha, you can't follow them. If troubles and habits come up, they should be treated immediately. If you don't know that these are enemies, or you don't have the ability to subdue them, greed comes up, hatred comes up, and you think it's good, so you run away.

As soon as greed comes up, it runs with greed and creates bad karma; Sometimes although we know that greed is not good and we should not run along, because its power is too strong, we can't help it, involuntarily, and have to be led by the nose, which is called cowardice. You can't be cowardly in the face of troubles and habits, but be brave.

In fact, when you go to treat these troubles and habits, you will know that they are easy to treat, and they are not as strong as you think, so don't be afraid. Since the beginningless eons, you have followed them and bowed your head for too long. Now you should resist and stop running after them.

Destroy all faults and enemies, cut off all obstacles, and then attain the fruit of complete omniscience, the Buddha fruit, this is the first condition.

"Birth, old age, illness and death are like waves, and I wish to cross the sea of suffering." After becoming a Buddha, it is not to enjoy it yourself, but to liberate the endless sentient parents in the sea of suffering of reincarnation. Reincarnation is like the sea, and these pains such as birth, old age, illness, and death are like the waves of the sea.

The sea is inseparable from the waves, and reincarnation is inseparable from suffering—the nature of reincarnation is suffering, just as the sea is inseparable from the waves. Our parents in the past life are drowning in such a sea of suffering. When we reach the other side, we have liberated and become Buddhas, and we have the ability, and we should help and liberate them.

"Bitter sea" can also be translated as "there is a sea". "Have" refers to the three beings, which are the reincarnation of the three realms. This is the second condition to be met, that is, after becoming a Buddha, you must liberate these parents who are drowning in the sea of suffering.

Whether it is dedicating to oneself or to sentient beings, these two conditions must be met. There is a way to dedicate it. The rituals mentioned in these verses are the methods, and they are the content of the Buddhas and great virtues at that time, so we must dedicate according to these verses and rituals.
