Karmapa: As a monk, are your rituals for the rest of your life being reversed?

Karmapa's teachings

As a monk, you should take good care of your own precepts. Even if there is only a little mistake, you should immediately repent and spend your life listening, thinking and meditating. Moreover, he must have a world-weary renunciation.

But many people today say that listening and contemplation is meaningless and do not need to practice listening and contemplation to tame their own continuum. They say some unrealistic words, which proves that they have not developed renunciation.

They should have developed renunciation towards worldly dharma, but instead they developed disgust and renunciation towards hearing, contemplating and practicing. Their conduct and monastic behavior have been completely reversed.

Since you have become a monk, you should give up your attachment to the world, practice Dharma, and practice supramundane Dharma. Some people keep saying that they are serving the guru, benefiting Buddhism, and benefiting all sentient beings.

But he is doing some worldly things, and his usual conversations with his guru are all about worldly things.

Even if it appears that he is practicing Dharma on the surface, it is still doing some rituals to obtain worldly benefits. His body, speech, and mind always revolve around the eight worldly laws. Monks must avoid such behaviors!

In the past, the Buddha had prophesied that the so-called Dharma practitioners in the future would always be scattered and careless about worldly Dharma, but under the banner of Dharma practice, they would maintain the appearance of Dharma practice.

In fact, Dharma practitioners should focus all their energy on practicing the Dharma they seek, and should not just keep these Dharma teachings in scriptures or notebooks.

Regardless of any good or evil karma, one must be able to distinguish and choose clearly in the mind. The ultimate goal of a monk is to obtain liberation and the fruit of perfect enlightenment.

In order to achieve this goal, in addition to increasing the precepts, listening, thinking, and practice must also increase. Arrogance lessens, devotion increases, meditation becomes clearer, good deeds increase day by day, and renunciation from the world increases day by day.

These are the results of practicing the Dharma. On the contrary, if these results do not arise in your mind, even if it temporarily looks like you have sufficient precepts and your meditation practice is very powerful.

But this does not bring any benefit to liberation and attainment of ultimate Buddhahood. As mentioned before, there are some masters today who use their disciples.

To achieve their own fame and fortune in the world, they will always tell their disciples, no matter what the guru says, you must obey him.; In the end, the disciple was finally sent to the path of committing evil.

They do not allow their disciples to practice liberation methods, but instead ask them to do some worldly methods, saying that in this way, some compassion and renunciation will arise.

In short, as soon as we first notice some arrogance and delusion in our hearts, we should think about its final result. If the result is good, we should cultivate it; if it is evil, we should get rid of it.
