病与不病
有次德山宣鉴禅师病了,有人问他:「老和尚,连你都会生病,那还有谁不生病的?」
德山说:「有啊!有不生病的人。」
那人又追问:「不生病的是怎么样的人呢?」
德山就表演给他看:「唉哟!唉哟!」地呻吟。意思是,他这身体有病的人就是内心不病的人。
这则公案的意境相当高。大德高僧、得道禅师,还是会生病的,但他们是肉体虽生病,心中并无病;身体的病是疼痛,心中的病是烦恼。
德山虽然肉体有病,心中并没有病;生理上尽管疼痛,心理上却没有怨恨、无奈、逃避的想法。有病和无病的心境,完全相同,能痊愈固然很好,医不好也没什么关系,因此有病等于没病。但是因为众生有病,所以他也要示现出疾病的样子。
一般人如果自己生病,或者亲友生病,也可以用这种方式加以安慰或劝导,不但可袪除自己向病魔投降的阴影,也能对病友有所启示和帮助。
