The sea of resentment
In human emotions, resentment or hatred is the strongest negative emotion and the most terrifying idea. This emotion or thought is like a direction that often leads us to an unpredictable abyss of pain, which not only destroys ourselves, but also others!
The old woman's poisonous oath
In the Buddha's era, one day, a businessman accidentally touched the cow on the road. The owner of the cow was afraid that the evil cow would bring him more trouble in the future, so he sold the cow at a low price.
When the new owner of the cow bought the cow and went home, he walked halfway and came to a river and wanted to give the cow water. However, the cow not only did not drink water, but also suddenly became very fierce and killed the new owner. The family of the new cow owner was furious when they found out, and immediately killed the cow and sold it to the market.
There was a farmer who was greedy for cheapness and bought the bull head.I used a rope to tie the horns and went home. Halfway through, because the weather was hot, I hung the cow's head on the branch and sat under the tree to rest. However, while resting, the rope that tied the cow's head suddenly broke for some reason. The cow's head fell from the branch and just hit the farmer's head. The poor farmer was beaten to death on the spot and was seriously injured.
A cow killed three people in one day. This unusual accident made everyone discuss it. Later, the news also reached King Bimbisara's ears. He also felt incredible. He thought there must be a reason for it, so he went to ask the Buddha in person.
The Buddha explained that in the past life, three businessmen made an appointment to do business in other places. In order to save money, they did not stay in a hotel, so they specially went to an old woman's house to stay.Originally, the two parties agreed to pay the old woman's rent, but on the second day, the three businessmen sneaked away while the old woman was out. When the old woman came back, she found out that she was very angry and chased after her and asked them for the debt.
The three businessmen were carrying heavy luggage, so they were caught up by an old woman not far away. However, these three businessmen thought that she could be bullied when she was old. Not only did they rely on the debt but also insulted her with bad words. The old woman had no choice but to say to them with resentment:
You scoundrels bully me for being lonely and lonely, and you will definitely get retribution in the future.Although I can’t do anything to you in this life, I will definitely take revenge and kill you to vent my anger in the next life!
The Buddha continued:
That ferocious cow is the later generation of the old woman, and the three people who were killed by the cow on the same day are the three businessmen who bullied the old woman!
This story not only shows the slightest dissatisfaction of cause and effect, but also shows the terrible resentment. The actions of the three merchants are certainly abominable, but they will not be punished by the death. The old woman's terrible resentment was like a poisonous curse, which not only cursed herself into the net of cause and effect, but also urged them to deteriorate the not-so-serious causal relationship between them.
Because of resentment, each other is destined to start a long-term and difficult-to-stop tragedy of revenge. In this tragedy, or the tragedy that is about to be staged, it is destined that no one is the winner. Because of the curse of resentment, one side curses others, and the other side curses themselves!
