Don't let things outside become obstacles to liberation

Tibetan Buddhism Buddhism

There was once a monk who liked his bowl very much, but he could not let go of his attachment to this bowl until he died. As a result, he was reborn as a poisonous snake after his death, and surrounded the bowl all day long and refused to let others touch it.In fact, there are countless examples of this in life.

If you cannot let go of your attachment to some items during your lifetime, you will be reborn as a hungry ghost and return home to find these things after death. In fact, he doesn't want to hurt his family, but unpleasant things will happen at home and even disasters will occur.

If you let it go, gold and cow dung are the same, and no matter how much wealth you have, there is no problem.Otherwise, having too much property and what you like is not a good thing. You will be greedy and reluctant to leave at the end of your life, which will become an obstacle to liberation and will affect liberation.

Nowadays, many people in society are working hard to make money and accumulate a lot of property. In the end, there are only two outcomes: either the property leaves you, or you leave the property, and there is no other choice.

Just like the sketch, it is painful no matter what it is - a person is not dead, and the money is gone, it is painful; a person is dead, and the money has not been spent, which is even more painful. So property will become an obstacle to liberation.

People nowadays love money and pay special attention to things outside of them. In fact, these are of no value. This is all impermanent. If you can't let go, it is a kind of pain. Therefore, you should be properly handled, do good deeds in this way and plant good roots.

For ordinary people or ordinary practitioners, it is best to properly handle property, or to offer gifts or do meaningful things you like.If you are unwilling to do this, you can also make a will and distribute the property to your children.

There is this habit in Tibet. The elderly will handle their own property and belongings well, do some good deeds, or give them to their children, so that they will not have any worries or greed, and will focus on chanting Buddha's name and practicing Dharma, and prepare for the coming of death. Therefore, you must eliminate the greed for worldly blessings, otherwise it will become an obstacle.

The same is true for obsession with children. Some people can change the fate of their children, while others cannot change their fate.Children and grandchildren have their own blessings, and it is best if they can benefit and help them.

If they really have something unsatisfactory, this is their own cause and effect, and they cannot be too persistent. In fact, children are temporary, not permanent. So you still have to let go of what you should let go.

In fact, it doesn’t make much sense to leave property to children.Nowadays, many rich people from abroad donate their property to society for charity, but do not leave it to their children. It is hard to say whether it is a blessing or a disaster to leave it to your children. It is more appropriate to be able to do something meaningful to society and others.

For those who practice and those who can truly let go, gold and cow dung are the same. No matter how much property they have, it doesn’t matter. They will not be greedy for these, and these property and items will not become obstacles to their liberation. So, it doesn't necessarily need to be done.
